12. Jan 2009 - EnOB building with sustainability certificate

Abstract
The German quality seal for sustainable buildings was awarded today at the BAU 2009 trade fair in Munich for the first time. The German minister responsible for building, Wolfgang Tiefensee, and the president of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), Prof. Werner Sobek, presented 16 certificates for particularly sustainable new buildings, which included four EnOB buildings.
more details
The achievements of the various EnBau model projects are a mark of the success of the EnOB research initiative: for example, the Centre for environmentally conscious building (ZUB) in Kassel received a silver certificate; the German Federal Environment Agency in Dessau, the 'Neues Regionshaus' in Hanover and the 'Paul-Wunderlich-Haus' in Eberswalde were each awarded a coveted gold certificate. These successes prove that the integral planning approach to energy-optimised building can help achieve sustainability and improve the quality of buildings in a tangible manner.
The quality seal is a joint project by the German Sustainable Building Council and the German Federal Ministry for Transport, Construction and Urban Development. Buildings are awarded the German quality seal for sustainable building in the categories gold, silver and bronze. The new procedure for certifying buildings is regarded as a second-generation system, not least because all aspects of sustainable building are considered during evaluation. These include ecological and economic factors, as well as quality as regards socio-cultural, functional, process, technical and site-specific issues. The quality seal is currently available as a pilot version for new office and administrative buildings. The step-by-step extension of the flexible rating system to include existing, residential, retail and other buildings is planned.
