02. Jul 2007 - Chancellor opens EnBau Project

Abstract
Yesterday, Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel inaugurated the new service and local administration centre in Eberswalde. The eponym of “Paul-Wunderlich-Haus”, as well as Brandenburg's Minister President Matthias Platzeck, had also gathered to honour the new building in Eberswalde city centre. “I will say throughout the Republic: look at what they have done in Eberswalde!” said Merkel, and praised the “exemplary energy concept”, the innovative spirit of which points well ahead to the middle of the century.
more details
The centrepiece of the new centre, “Paul-Wunderlich-Haus”, is a reminder of one of the city's great sons. Wunderlich, who saw in his 80th birthday this year, signed the book “The Return of Paul Wunderlich” in the inner courtyard of the new building. This is a freshly-printed catalogue, which also recounts Wunderlich's development and his relationship with the city of Eberswalde.
More than 300 works of art are accommodated in “Paul-Wunderlich-Haus”, beginning with the group of sculptures in the inner courtyard, via many pictures and lithographs in and around the plenar hall, through to filigree porcelain works, jewellery and, on show for the first time anywhere, the plaster models in the cabinet.
The new development of the service and administration centre is an EnOB pilot project from the research field of energy-optimised new buildings. The building is in normal operation right away, but will be scientifically evaluated over a long period of use, and optimised as it continues to run.
Further information on the building’s conceptual design and, shortly, the first evaluation results, may be found on the building details page of this website
