Workshop on "sustainable museum refurbishment"

Abstract
Date: 22 September 2010
Location: Bremerhaven
Many museums have begun to show their age and are in need of refurbishment. However, given their special usage requirements, standard refurbishment concepts can rarely be transferred to these buildings. In addition, the requirements for the indoor environment in the exhibition spaces are often very high for conservation reasons, which can entail considerable expenditure in terms of energy and costs. The Institute of Building Services and Energy Design at TU Braunschweig is therefore organising a workshop on ”Sustainable museum refurbishment” for the second time. The event is being held at Deutsches Schifffahrtsmuseum in Bremerhaven.
More details
As part of the EnOB research initiative, a research area is focussing on the refurbishment of museum buildings. In various projects, museum buildings are renovated in an exemplary and sustainable manner with scientific support. This is concerned firstly with preserving the building fabric while taking conservation requirements into consideration, secondly with meeting the indoor environment requirements with as little technical and energy expenditure as possible and thirdly with reducing the refurbishment and operating costs as much as possible.
The event is aimed at museum operators, architects and designers, construction and building technology companies as well as public administration. It intends to show how museums can be optimally refurbished taking into account use-specific requirements. Exemplary refurbishment projects will be presented.
Conference venue
The event is being held at Deutsches Schifffahrtsmuseum in Bremerhaven.
