Summer Academy 2009 – Architecture with Energy

Abstract
Date: 21-30 September 2009
Location: Wuppertal
The EnOB research initiative is organising the Summer Academy 2009 under the banner of “Architecture with Energy”. This training event is aimed at architecture students from the fourth specialised semester onwards who wish to familiarise themselves with the planning of high-performance buildings with the help of concrete case studies. High-performance buildings offer high degrees of comfort while at the same time minimising energy requirements and operating costs. The Summer Academy is being planned and organised by the Prof. Karsten Voss’ accompanying research team at the University of Wuppertal.
More details
Best-practice examples and presentations will impart the required knowledge. Workshops will offer practice using various simulation programs which check and optimise designs with regard to comfort, energy consumption and hygrothermal component behaviour. With the social and economic structural changes occurring in North Rhine-Westphalia and particularly in Wuppertal, the conversion and refurbishment of buildings is dominating construction activity more and more. For this reason, the material learnt will be practised and built upon using a design from this area.
Further stimulating ideas will be offered by expert speakers such as Georg W. Reinberg and Manfred Hegger, and by excursions to the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex and to the Mont-Cenis Academy, for example. Even the accommodation on offer is interesting from an energy-architecture point of view. Further information can be found in the enclosed leaflet on the EnOB Summer Academy 2009 and in the detailed programme (PDF).
