Modular, zero-energy storage depots

Framework project EnSan
Das Modulare Nullenergie-Depot. Tagung am 12. Mai 2011 in Benediktbeuern. Veranstalter: Fraunhofer IBP

More details

The preservation of collections has to primarily meet conservation requirements in terms of the indoor environment, security and fire protection. Since most collections are only ever partly on public display and are largely stored in depots, they require storage areas that meet these requirements and are economically feasible. At a time of cuts in cultural budgets and increasing energy costs, there is a need to reconcile the long-term conservation of the art and cultural assets with the provision of storage areas that are ecologically and economically viable. Both museums and archives have to actively act here in order to conserve the artworks in their trust despite the scarce resources, whereby the key to a successful, future-oriented strategy is economic and energy-efficient storage and archive construction.

The conference will be addressing this problem and will present possible solutions using current examples from research and practice related to energy-efficient, sustainable construction.

The event is being organised by the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP) in conjunction with k3-artservices, which provides preventive conservation and storage depot design services, and project developer Ottmann GmbH & Co. Südhausbau KG.
