2010 Summer Academy – Architecture with Energy

Framework project EnSanFramework project EnBau

More details

The necessary knowledge will be conveyed using best-practice examples and lectures. Workshops will offer participants practice in using various current simulation tools in order to check and optimise their designs in terms of the room environment, visual comfort, energy consumption and hygrothermal component behaviour.

Social changes and demographic developments are now providing a vital impetus, whereby conversions and refurbishments are playing an increasingly dominating role in construction projects. This is why a design project in this field will be used to apply and consolidate what has been learned.
The participants will receive further input not just from additionally invited speakers such as Prof. Dr. Hausladen but also from excursions in and around Dresden: Frauenkirche, Dresdner Druck- und Verlagshaus and Dresden-Hellerau.

The summer university is aimed at architecture students in the fourth specialist semester and above. They should have design experience and solid background knowledge in the fields of construction physics and energy-optimised construction.

The work will be conducted in the historic buildings belonging to the Kunstakademie Dresden. In contrast, the applicants will be accommodated in a typical prefabricated former Eastern German block of flats that was extensively refurbished in 2005/2006.

Registration

The Summer Academy is being planned and organised by the Professor Karsten Voss accompanying research team at the University of Wuppertal and the architectural faculties at Karlsruhe and Dresden universities. The 2010 Summer Academy is financially supported by the EnOB research initiative using funding from the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. Thanks to this sponsorship, the participation fee is only 275.00 euros and just 250.00 euros for bookings made by 31 May 2010.
