Nuremberg City Library - conversion and general refurbishment

The Luitpoldhaus, erected in 1911 and reconstructed in the 1950s after having been largely destroyed, will now be refurbished. The project will merge the various library functions at this central location in Nuremberg. To this end, the buildings will also be converted and extended. The storage of manuscripts, incunabula, prints and maps from the Middle Ages requires sophisticated air-conditioned rooms.

Refurbishment of a Gründerzeit house with interesting details

In Hamburg, a Gründerzeit house that comprises two structurally identical building sections was fully refurbished. The refurbishment was carried out using two sets of standards to enable the two refurbishment alternatives to be compared in respect of energy efficiency and costs. Particular attention was paid to developing transferable solutions for the refurbishment of Gründerzeit houses.

Material data for structurally and hygrothermally optimised renovation

When renovating old buildings, problems such as mould formation or corrosion often occur that usually stem from a lack of knowledge. For example, there is often insufficient knowledge about the moisture characteristics of the construction materials used in the original construction and those used today. MASEA, a materials database that is freely accessible online, now provides detailed hygrothermal material characteristics for a wide selection of typical construction materials.
